The story of Tina’s House dates back to 1984 when John and Fotina (Tina) purchased five acres of land in beautiful upstate New York to build their dream home. Copake is nestled between Hudson, New York and the Berkshires’ Great Barrington in Massachusetts and Copake Lake is a quick walk from the property. John and Tina scoured through magazines and house plans until they found the gorgeous three-story country home that’s spacious, yet cozy, and would one day become “Tina’s House”. After years of saving, their dream home became a reality, and construction on the home was completed in the fall of 1993 – just in time for cool autumn nights by the firepit.
The interior design of the house was completely done by Tina. She had an eye for design and detail and wanted the home to be welcoming and relaxing – a place where her whole family could come together and enjoy. She designed the house wanting to bring the beauty of the outdoors inside, by including an abundance of windows and decks.
Since 1993, John and Tina had been enjoying their country home, taking their family on little getaways. In the winter, Tina was an avid skier, and in the spring and summer, you could find Tina gardening while her husband, John, would garden alongside her, or be out fishing at Copake Lake or hunting in the woods. Autumn would bring the aromas of freshly baked apple pies from the apple orchard down the road. Tina loved cooking for her family, and a trip to Tina’s House wasn’t complete until you saw her bustling around the kitchen making your favorite meal. John and Tina decided to retire and move to Copake full-time in 2015, where they enjoyed their golden years in this all-weather oasis.
Sadly, Tina passed away five years later. Although she is gone, her warmth and grace can still be felt in the house.
